This year 36 teams are taking part (39 of 60 Primary Schools) and that is a record participation! Congratulations, this is a great cooperation - thanks! The kids will definately have fun and days to remember - and your team will be motivated to continue to practice and play after the tournament - e.g. friendlies against other schools - then, to come back stronger in 2010.
If further information is needed you can contact the Sports Division. Looking forward to an exciting and fair championship!
Monday 12th January 2009The Secondary Schools Volleyball Championship 2009 will commence this week on Wednesday (14th January) with 2 games each at 2 venues. Below you are the fixture and the zone tables.
Friday 12th December 2008Sports Coordinator, Mr. Oswald Savarin, in commenting on the 2008 Schools Football Championships, highlighted the efforts of the officers of the Sports Division in conducting a successful 2008 programme for the U-15's, U-17's and U-20's. He also complemented the schools that participated in the three competitions especially the Portsmouth Secondary School - U-15 Champions, the St. Mary's Academy - U-17 Champions and the Dominica State College - U-20 Champions.
Mr. Savarin however drew attention to the decline in standards in the area of basic skills and in what he termed as "common sense football". He is of the view that teachers and coaches need to spend more time helping students gain mastery of the basic skills of ball control, passing and kicking.
He believes that standards at the youth level were much higher when Dominica, under the leadership of Sports Division's Coach Joffre Faustin, participated in the Keithly Sheppard Youth Tournament. In this regard, Mr. Savarin noted that the recognition of Mr. Faustin at the 2008 Independence Celebrations, was a well-deserved reward for his contribution towards football development in Dominica.
Mr. Savarin then extended congratulations on behalf of the staff of the Sports Division and on his own behalf, to Former Sports Officer and Football Coach Joffre Faustin for the Meritorious Service Award which was bestowed on him at the 2008 Independence Day National Parade.
Despite the concerns raised by Mr. Savarin about the poor standard of football displayed at the 2008 Secondary Schools Championships, he thought that what he saw earlier this year at the Primary Schools Football Championship was very encouraging.

Thursday 23rd October 2008The Secondary Schools Independence Athletics Finals were held at the Windsor Park Stadium on 15 & 17 October 2008.
Four Championship Records were broken, congratulations:
| 1200m U-14 girls: | JOSEPH Ayodel | C.B.S.S. | 4:35.0 |
| Discus U-20 boys: | DUBLIN Calvin | D.S.C. | 40.95m |
| Javelin U-14 girls: | LINTON Chelsey | N.E.C.S. | 30.60m |
| Javelin U-20 boys: | RIVIERE Lincoln | D.S.C. | 58.32m |
Please note: Unfortunately the two U-14 High Jump events had to be cancelled due to wet conditions
This first experience in the new Windsor Park Stadium was a successful one. If only we could include the horizontal jumps and shot put events inside the arena. And if next year we are able to increase the number of supporting and cheering schools or spectators in the Stadium, the motivation for the athletes to win this championship will grow - then hopefully more athletes will prepare seriously and through tougher competitions performance will improve. To win future Windward Island School Games we need to raise the standard on the track and in the jumps with all this talent in our schools. Preparations for 2009 should start now, nine months before the Games.
Thanks to all officials, helpers and participating Schools for your effort and cooperation to make these Independece Athletics Finals 2008 in Roseau a success.
Wednesday 15th October 2008The Primary Schools Independence Athletic Finals were held at the Windsor Park Stadium on 13th October 2008.
