The 2013 United Insurance Secondary Schools U-20 Cricket Championship will bowl off on Friday, January 18, 2013 at the Botanic Gardens from 9:30 am.
The usual opening ceremony will start off proceedings where remarks are expected to come from: Mr. Trevor Shillingford – Dominica’s Sports Coordinator, Hon. Norris Prevost – the Parliamentary Representative of the Roseau Central Constituency, Mr. Nigel Shillingford – a representative of the sponsor -United Insurance and Company Ltd and from the Hon. Justina Charles – the Minister responsible for Culture, Youth and Sports.
Nine (9) schools have registered for this year’s championship. They are the Dominica Grammar School, Castle Bruce Secondary School, Goodwill Secondary School, North East Comprehensive School, St. Mary’s Academy, Portsmouth Secondary School, Pierre Charles Secondary School, Dominica State College and the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School.
The schools will again be represented by their winning houses rather than their selected teams at the ballorama which will follow the opening ceremony.
Last year’s ballorama champion was the Balata House of the Pierre Charles Secondary School.
The overall winner of the championship was the Dominica State College with the North East Comprehensive taking the Runner Up position.
The United Insurance Company Ltd has once again partnered with the Sports Division and will sponsor the championship to the tune of ten thousand, five hundred dollars (EC$10,500.00). Ten thousand dollars (EC$10,000.00) will go towards the general running of the competition whilst the winning school will receive a cash prize of five hundred dollars (EC$500.00) at the Schools Sports Awards ceremony carded for July 2013.
