The Qualifying Round of the Girls Component of the NBD Primary Schools Football Championships will kick off on Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th March 2014.
On Wednesday, five (5) schools – Grand Fond Primary, W.S. Stevens Primary, Jones Beaupierre Primary, San Sauveur Primary and Sineku Primary – will converge at the Castle Bruce Playing Field from 12 Noon to seek qualification to the next round.
On Thursday, competition will be atthe Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth – Savanne Paille Primary, Calibishie Primary, Woodford Hill Primary and Roosevelt Douglas Primary will compete while Warner Primary, Kelleb Laurent Primary, St. Luke’s Primary and Goodwill Primary will meet at the Newtown Savannah on Monday 31st.
Thirteen (13) schools will participate in this year’s Girls championship – a slight increase over last year.
The Quarter Finals are expected to take place on April 8th, 2014. Grand Fond Primary is the Defending Girls Champions.
Meanwhile the Roosevelt Douglas Primary School (RDPS) won the boy’s championship on Friday, March 21st at Portsmouth when they defeated the St. Luke’s Primary on penalty kicks. The teams were tied 1:1 after regulation time and over time; RDPS then won on penalty kicks – 3:1.
Earlier, both schools won their the semi-finals match ups – Roosevelt Douglas Primary triumphed over St. John’s Primary – 1 goal to nil and the St. Luke’s Primary won over Goodwill Primary – 1 goal to nil.
Goodwill Primary and St. John’s Primary then played to determine the 3rd and 4th placed teams – St. John’s won on penalty kicks (1:0)
This is the first time that the Roosevelt Douglas Primary School has won the competition.
