When the girls from the Portsmouth Secondary School came up against those from the Dominica Grammar School in the finals of the Petro Caribe Secondary Schools U20 Girls Basketball Championship, a lot was at stake.
The Portsmouth Secondary School had made their way to the finals with an unbeaten run in 2014. In order to win, they had to go pass Kyla Winston (7pts) and Romelcia Phillip (10pts) of the Dominica Grammar School.
The pressure of remaining unbeaten did not hinder their efforts and by the end of the match the celebrations were on the bench of the Portsmouth Secondary School girls as they were on the winning side of the score line 41-23.
Aymah George (10pts) and Aliyah Prince (13pts) had found a way to ensure that they remained unbeaten and successfully defended their trophy.
While the girls of the Dominica Grammar School comforted themselves with an opportunity to get a second chance at the championship in 2015, since none of their athletes will be leaving school. The Portsmouth Secondary School girls are already eyeing a 3-peat since only Halima Pierre will be moving on past her Secondary School years.
