Schools Table Tennis Championships

table tennis3Four (4) days of action in the Schools Table Tennis Championship came to an end with the Finals of the Primary Schools Boys and Girls’ Open Singles on Friday 27th February.

Cher Seaman of Vielle Case Primary School defeated last year’s female champion – Jarnilla Phillip of the Wesley Primary School in straight sets – 11:3; 11:6 and 11:3.

The WS Stevens Primary School continued to dominate and was the sole school which featured in the boys’ Final with Ernest Edwards and Aaron Nisbit being the top players.  After being down,  2 sets to nil, Ernest Edwards rallied from behind to defeat his worthy opponent – 6:11; 6:11, 11-9, 11-8; 11-7.

Earlier in the week, the Secondary Schools Championships ended with PSS leading the team events with wins in both the U-16 boys and girls and the U-20 girls categories.  The other top contender, the NECS took first place in both the boys and girls’ U-14 categories whilst the DSC won the U-20 boys’ category.

In the female open singles, Aliyah Prince of the PSS successfully defended her title when she defeated Briana Antoine, who is another student of the PSS.

In the boys’ category, Chea Seaman of the DSC defeated Desmond Boney of the NECS in what was a repeat of last year’s final.

The Sports Division congratulates all the winners and especially wants to applaud brother and sister champions – Chea and Cher Seaman.

Due to the high number of schools which registered, the Primary Schools’ team events could not be done within the allotted two days therefore the Sports Division has taken the decision to do the team events at the district level.
