2015 Secondary Schools Volleyball Championships comes to an end

Another championship organized by the Sports Division in the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Constituency Empowerment has come to an end.

This time, it was the Volleyball Championships for the Secondary Schools – a competition which proved to be very exciting and competitive for both the male and female teams which participated in this year’s championships.

The Championships started on January 14, 2015 with its usual festivals amongst the Champion Houses of the participating schools and it was the Heron House of the North East Comprehensive School which won the boys’ festival whilst the Sorhaindo House of the Castle Bruce Secondary School won the girls’ festival.

The regular league featured 11 female teams and 7 male teams.  The female championship was played in two zones whilst the male championship was done in a Round Robin format.

Both female and male finals were held on Tuesday, March 3rd at the grounds of the Dominica Grammar School.

The first match was the female Final between the Castle Bruce Secondary School and Portsmouth Secondary School.  These teams had already played each other during the group stage and the Castle Bruce Secondary School wanted to duplicate the win they had in early February but the Portsmouth Secondary School came with other plans in mind.

After a hard fought and competitive match, it was the girls of the Portsmouth Secondary School who proved that they wanted the championship title a little more. They won the Final with a score of 3:2 (25-22; 21;25; 25-23; 22-25; 15:12) to walk away as Champions of the 2015 Secondary Schools Female Volleyball Championship.

Meanwhile, the boys of the Dominica State College had a much easier time in terms of retaining their championship title when they won their match over the North East Comprehensive School with a score card of3:0 (25-18; 25-19; 25-23).
