Women & Girls’ Sports Festival

image-20-03-14-01-29-3Sunday, March 8th is International Women’s Day and this year, the Sports Division has collaborated with the Bureau of Gender Affairs to host the 3rd Edition of the Women & Girls’ Sports Festival.

This festival is scheduled to commence at 2:00 pm at the Colihaut Playing Field and will feature women’s groups from around the island participating in various sporting disciplines to include netball, rounders, cricket and volleyball.

This Women & Girls’ Sports Festival is done annually in recognition of International Women’s Day but it is also one of the tools used by the Sports Division to encourage greater participation by our Dominican women in physical activities.

It is also hoped that this event will create a greater interest in sport in our present and future mothers and hence lead to increased support for youth participation in sport.

Traditional and fun games are also expected in Sunday’s activity.  There will also be bouncing castles and face painting for the children.

The Sports Division and the Bureau of Gender Affairs invites all to this special event as women in Dominica and around the world are celebrated.
