Friday April 17th is another busy day in the calendar of the Sports Division’s sporting activities.
U-20 Boys Basketball
The Final of the Secondary Schools Under-20 Boys Basketball Championship will take place at the Dominica Grammar School hard court from 3:45pm on Friday, April 17th.
In that match, the DSC who defeated the PSS (88-53) in one of the semi-final match, will seek to defend their championshp title against the NECS. It is the first time that NECS will feature in the Final of this competition – they defeated the PCSS (63-53) in the other semi-final.
U-15 Cricket Championship
There will be three matches played on Friday, April 17th :
· At the Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth, newcomers St. John’s academy again be on show as they try to repeat a win when they take on the NECS.
· At the Dublanc Playing Field, ITSS goes up against PSS and
· At the Botanic Gardens, the DGS will play the PCSS.
NBD Primary Schools Football Championships
The final team to qualify for the semi-finals of the NBD Primary Schools Girls Football Competition will be determined when the Savanne Paille Primary School goes up against the W.S Stevens Primary at the Benjamin’s Park from 11:30 am on Friday, April 17th.
So far, the girls of San Sauveur Primary School and Petite Savanne Primary School have already qualified for the semi-finals.
Woodford Hill Primary and Roosevelt Douglas Primary will play on Thursday, April 16th to determine who will be the other team to feature in semis.
The 1st Round of matches in the District segment of the NBD Primary Schools Boys Football Championships will also take place at two (2) venues on Friday, April 17th:
The East, North, North East and West Districts will converge at the Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth for Zone A competition whilst the South, South East, South West and Valley Central Districts will compete at the Newtown Savannah in Zone B. Matches will commence at 1:00 pm for both zones.
The top two teams in each zone will qualify for the Final round which will take place on Friday 24th April.
For the first time, all the track and field athletes selected to train in preparation for the Windward Islands Schools Games, will come together as a group at Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth. Training will be from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm.
Other training sessions for the Games will continue as scheduled in basketball on Friday whilst on Saturday 18th, there will be training for Netball, Volleyball and Football from 9:30 am.
