The 2015 Secondary Schools Under 15 Cricket Championship, organized by the Sports Division, will commence on Wednesday, April 15th with two (2) matches.
At the Botanic Gardens, St. Mary’s Academy will take on the Castle Bruce Secondary School whilst at Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth, the Portsmouth Secondary School will come up against the newcomers to Secondary Schools Cricket – the St. John’s Academy.
Nine (9) schools are participating in this year’s championship, which will be played in two (2) zones with the top two (2) teams from each zone advancing to the semi-finals.
Matches during this year’s championship are expected to be played at the Botanic Gardens, Benjamin’s Park, Dublanc and Jolly’s John Park.
In an effort to improve on the standard and quality of play, the Sports Division is piloting a mentorship programme during this year’s championship.
The Division is pleased to have secured the services of five (5) former and current national players and one certified cricket coach who are expected to perform the role of the mentors during the championships.
These mentors will be assigned to six (6) of the schools – these mentors are expected to perform the roles of “match-day coaches” and will interact with the players and advise on game strategies and match situations.
It is hoped that this new initiative will bring improved performances and that both the players and the sports teachers will benefit from the experience and knowledge that this new mentorship programme will bring.
