Grenada Wins Big in Day 1 of the 2015 CBN/Winlott Windward Islands Schools Games

WISG 2015Dominica has started the 2015 Windward Islands Schools Games on a high note.

Sunday, 26th July was the 1st day of the Canadian Bank Note (CBN) & WINLOTT sponsored Games which are organized  by the Sports Division in the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture & Constituency Empowerment.

The four (4) Windward Islands, namely Dominica, Grenada, St. Lucia and St. Vincent & the Grenadines were on show as the teams paraded in their national colours at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium. The athletes were inspected by His Excellency the President of Dominica, Mr. Charles A. Savarin, who was present with his wife at the opening ceremony.

Speeches came from the Dominica’s Sports Coordinator, Mr. Trevor Shillingford; the Member of Parliament for the Roseau Central Constituency, Hon. Joseph Isaac; representatives of the sponsors, Mr. Murray Bullock and Mr. Simon Wall, the Minister of Sports in Dominica, Mrs. Justina Charles and delegates from the other islands.

The ceremony also featured performances from singer Tronnel Pacquette and the Universal Martial Arts Academy.

The track and field competition followed and went into the evening under the lights.  There were several splendid performances as Grenada proved that they were again the top team in the sub-region in track and field.

Grenada finished with 182 points, Dominica – 2nd with 136 points, St. Lucia – 3rd with 105 points and St. Vincent & Grenadines in the cellar position with 102 points.
