The Closing Ceremony will draw the curtains of the 2015 CBN/Winlott Windward Islands Schools Games on Sunday

WISG 2015The Sports Division in the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture & Constituency Empowerment will host the closing ceremony of the 2015 CBN/WINLOTT Windward Islands Schools Games on Sunday, August 2nd.

After a week of competition amongst the youth athletes of the Windward Islands, the top teams and individuals will receive recognition at a very fitting awards ceremony at the scenic Cabrits National Park from 8:00 pm on Sunday.

Amongst awards to be given out are the top three overall championship trophies and MVPs trophies for each sporting discipline per individual country.

Prior to the distribution of awards, remarks are expected to come from the Sports Coordinator – Mr. Trevor Shillingford, Deputy Chairman of the Dominica Lotteries Commission – Mr. Franklyn Fabien, the Mayor of Portsmouth – His Worship Titus Francis, the Member of Parliament for the Portsmouth Constituency – Hon. Ian Douglas and the Minister of Youth & Sports – Hon. Justina Charles.

The Windward Islands Schools Games are the biggest Games for the sub-region and feature competition in basketball (boys & girls), football, volleyball (boys & girls), netball and athletics (boys & girls).

Grenada, the defending champions, have already captured the athletics and girls’ basketball titles whilst Dominica has won the boys’ volleyball title.

The other titles are up for grabs as competition continues on Saturday, August 1st and Sunday, August 2nd  at the Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth.  The island which accumulates the moist points will walk away with the Overall Championship Trophy in the 2015 Windward Islands Schools Games which have been sponsored by the Canadian Bank Note (CBN) and WinLott.
